BLS data for education occupations:

There is no measurable displacement in education employment. The teacher shortage is a bigger problem than AI adoption.

2. The social function of school. School is not just information transfer. It’s childcare, socialization, supervision, and community. AI can deliver information. It cannot supervise 30 children or teach social skills.

3. Regulatory and accreditation requirements. Teaching credentials, accreditation standards, and state/federal funding requirements all assume human teachers. AI-first schools cannot currently receive accreditation or public funding in most jurisdictions.


The 10-year question

The real disruption in education is generational. A student who started using ChatGPT at age 14 in 2023 will enter the workforce in 2027. Their relationship with information, problem-solving, and creative work is fundamentally different from any previous generation.

The question is not “will AI replace teachers.” It’s “what happens when the first AI-native generation enters an economy built for pre-AI workers?”
